The Mikimoto Celebration Box for the 150th Anniversary of Kokichi Mikimoto
Case Study — Swiss Packaging
Bespoke VIP Packaging · Tokyo & New York · 2008
To mark the 150th anniversary of founder Kokichi Mikimoto (1858–2008), Swiss Packaging was commissioned to design and manufacture a new presentation system—defining a pivotal evolution in the brand’s global identity.
This project replaced the legacy oval “Marilyn Monroe” case—long associated with Mikimoto’s mid-century heritage—with a modern, architectural form aligned with the brand’s international positioning.

Design Evolution: From Heritage to Modern Icon
The previous oval silhouette, rooted in 1950s design language, was reinterpreted into a structured octagonal form—introducing precision, symmetry, and a contemporary luxury expression.
• Octagonal architecture defining a modern silhouette
• Balanced proportions with clean, controlled edge definition
• Transition from soft form to structured presence
This transition was not cosmetic. It signaled a deliberate shift:
From romantic heritage → global modern luxury
From soft form → architectural presence
From passive closure → engineered interaction

• Precision-engineered geometry across all eight facets
• Mechanical push-button clasp with controlled closing action
